Obituary of Alice C. Tipp Alice Catherine Tipp, 98, a lifelong resident of Ulster County, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 18, 1923, in Kingston, NY, she was the daughter of the late James and Helen (Cogan) Williams. Alice married Walter Tipp on June 12, 1954, and Walt predeceased her on Feb. 6, 1988. She graduated from No. 4 School in Ponckhockie on June 1937, and went on to graduate from Kingston High School in 1941. Alice always supported and pursued the needs of the men and women who have served in the great wars and conflicts of our country. After joining WINGS (Women in the National Ground Service) Alice continued onto Marcy Aviation School where she became an airplane mechanic for the Rome Army Air Force Base during During WWII. After WWII, Alice was employed by various local textile companies in Kingston. From 1950-1964 Alice was employed at Hercules Powder Company in Port Ewen. Alice lived a long accomplished life. first woman to be elected to the Ulster County Legislature. She strived to help others any way she could and advocate for all during her 30 consecutive years as an Ulster County Legislator. Her drive to advocate for others, especially for senior citizens, continued long after her time as Legislator. She was most recently an advocating for those at Birchez Associates of Saugerties, Esopus and Kingston. As an Ulster County Legislator Alice was the Chairman of the General Services/Community Services, Women's Health Care, Youth, Aging, Veterans' and Handicapped Services, and Program for the Aging Committees. In addition, she served on the Ways and Means, Space, Golden Hill Health Care, Public Works, Human Services, General Services, Intergovernmental Relations, Finance, Public Health, County Officers, Operations and Efficiency and Social Services Committees. Alice was a member of the American Legion Post #72 -Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a longtime member of Kiwanis and the first woman to become a member and to be elected President. She was past Vice President of the Ulster County Woman's Republican Club and Ulster County SPCA. In addition, she was involved with the WGHQ Christmas Fund and served as Secretary and Vice President. Alice received both the New York State "Senior of the Year" and " YWCA Woman of the Year" award. She was a Honoree of the Ulster County Community College, Member and past President of Ulster County Chapter of the Federations of Women's Republican Club - named 1992 "Woman of the Year", and was named the 1994 Loyal Order of the Moose "Public Servant of the Year". Alice was proud for never being late for any meeting, which indicated her total dedication to Ulster County and its residents. Alice also had perfect attendance as a member of Kiwanis. In Alice's spare time she was a Vanda Beauty Counselor for over 35 years. Above all, Alice enjoyed spending her free time with her family at her daughter's home on Cape Cod and with her friends she made on "The Cape". Her grandson James was her shining star. They shared a bond like no other. She loved to watch him perform on stage and was very proud of all his accomplishments as an actor, singer and dancer. Alice is survived by her loving family, her daughter Cheryl Lee McTague and son-in-law Jim; her loving grandson, James Lee McTague; and her son Walter Tipp all of Saugerties, NY; in addition to Alice's countless friends, colleagues, and others who were blessed to know her. In addition to her parents and husband, Alice is predeceased by her siblings, Beverly, Virginia, Chester, Donald and William.
